Here are the February 2001 submissions for your consideration and commenting. All commentary should be sent to the Rouge Scarpe Herald, Aryanhwy merch Catmael, early enough to arrive by May 1, 2001, with copies to Dragon and myself. Unless otherwise stated, all name submissions will accept minor and major changes to grammar and/or spelling.
I keep noticing a large number of people who are apparently commenting on my LoIs and sending their comments to Rouge Scarpe but not sending them to me. It is not only a requirement that I am copied on all LoCs sent to Rouge Scarpe, but it is also a courtesy, and I would appreciate it very much if everyone who is commenting would remember to send me a copy as well.
1) Anna z Pernstejna. New Name and Device. Vert, a bull's head caboshed Or, for augmentation a lance fesswise in chief bearing a pennant with the Midrealm arms.

The given name and the byname are both documented from Strange, Pernsteiners in America. Page 3 indicates that there was an Anna z Postupic who lived in the early 16th century. The same page indicates that there was a Stepan z Pernštejna who lived 1243-1294. The client wants an authentic 10-13th century German/Bavarian/Czech name. She will NOT allow MAJOR changes and she will NOT allow the creation of a holding name.
The name might be better spelled as Anna z Pernštejna, but I see no reason to change it unless the client desires to do so.
The client's augmentation was granted by TRM Finn and Tamara on 15 April, AS XXXIV (2000 CE).
2) Artemas of Grimsby. Name and Device Resubmission. Checky sable and gules, three lion's heads erased contourney Or.

The client claims that the name is a resubmission of a return by Rouge Scarpe on 6/00. However, but the situation is rather more complicated: The client submitted Artemus of Grimsby originally and it was pended by Rouge Scarpe on 8/00 for clarification (RS preferred Artemas, but noted that even it was not very authentic) but when the client failed to respond to Rouge Scarpe's requests, she sent it on to Laurel as Artemus of Grimsby. Laurel has made her decision on this name by now but the results of that (February) meeting will probably not be published for another four+ months.
The client has basically submitted the same documentation again. The given name is cited from Hanks and Hodges, Given Names (27) and from The New Testament of The Bible (Titus 3:12). Grimsby is dated to the 13th century as a placename by Gillett, A History of Grimsby (12). A John de Grimsby is found on Richard II's rolls, according to Foster (101). The client wishes to have an authentic 9th-14th century Saxon-Norman name.
The client's previous submission (Checky sable and gules, three lion's heads erased contourny Or and langued vert) was returned by Rouge Scarpe on 8/00 for the poor contrast of the field division. The client apparently did not understand this reason for the return because he has submitted the same field division again.
3) Ceri O'Dochartaigh. New Name and Device. Pean, a lion rampant Or, maned, a bordure embattled gules.

Ó Dochartaigh is documented in Kelly, Irish Family Names (35). While it is not dated there, the family is dated to the 13th century in O'Laughlin, The Book of Irish Families (81). Ceri is a Welsh name found in Sierra, Celtic Baby Names (n.p.). The client cares most about having a Celtic name, secondly on the name's meaning (Ceri means "to love"), and finally on the sound of the name. She would like to have an authentic Irish Celtic name. The client also attached a three page single-spaced which largely explains why she chose the name but does not provide information relevant for registration -- although it might assist someone who hadd to decide on changing the name.
Ceri is found in Gruffudd (23). Ó Dochartaigh is found in MacLysaght (84, under "Doherty").
4) Dyfwn Wen Ysginydd. Change of Registered Device. Purpure, a sea unicorn hauriant argent between three oak leaves fesswise Or.

If this device is registered, she would like her current device (Purpure, a chevron Or seme of acorns vert between three oak leaves fesswise Or ) [reg'd 6/98] to be released.
5) Elisabeth Nedlere. Name and Device Resubmission. Azure, a needle bendwise sinister argent winged and threaded Or.

The client's previous name submission (Ellspeth of the Nadel) was returned by Rouge Scarpe on 5/00 for lack of documentation. The client has stuck with a similar meaning but created a different name.
Elisabeth is dated to 1483 in Withycombe (100). Nedlere is found in Reaney & Wilson (320, under "Needler") and dated to1235. The client cares most about language/culture and wants a period 12th-16th century Norman-Saxon name.
The client's previous device submission (Azure, a needle argent, enflamed gules fimbriated Or) was returned by Rouge Scarpe for incorrect depiction of flames and for the fimbriation of those flames. The client has abandoned the enflamed concept.
6) Robert von Murrhardt for White Star Company. New Household Badge. Azure vetu ploye argent, an oak tree eradicated proper.

The household's name was submitted on the 2/01 MK ILoI as well. The badge is to be co-owned with Gillian Kateryn Taylor (submitted on 2/01 MK ILoI).

The client provided only one copy of the device form (and it was an old form). He has been provided with a copy of the correct form to use.
