The following items have been accepted and forwarded to Laurel:

1) Abel Frölicher – Device resubmission – Azure, in bend sinister a heart and a hand in benediction Or

NOTE: Although the field is azure, the device submission forms have started to color shift to more of a purpure. Please do NOT use computer color printers or color photocopiers for heraldic submissions. Research has shown that many of these colored inks are unstable, and Laurel is considering a total ban on those submissions.

2) Alf of the High Mountain – Device Submission - Azure, two links of chain in cross interlaced argent.

This identical submission was returned by the then Rouge Scarpe Herald in September 2002 (and January 1998 before that), all for the same reason: "This identical device was previously returned by Dragon (sitting in for Rouge Scarpe) on 1/98 for being unidentifiable: The device is returned as unblazonable. Guesses for what the charge was included links of chain, cartouches, and one `pretzel cross'. As the device has remained unchanged, the problem persists and the internal commentators (while more charitable in their commentary this time) seemed to agree that the device was still not registerable. At the very least, there needs to be some evidence that the design is a period motif.}"

This time the client has provided some documentation for the design.
The Coloured Ornament of All Historical Styles", Speltz, Alexander, Baumgartner, shows a Roman mosaic floor tiling of the interlaced chain links style.
Libya: The Lost Cities of the Roman Empire", DiVita, Vita-Evard, & Bacchielli, Konemann Press, also has a photo of the design "...a geometrically decorated section of floor in the Justinian basilica."
Italian Maiolica and Incised slipware in the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge", Poole, Julia E., Cambridge University Press, shows the design in the bottom of a bowl dated 1275-1375.

2) Bertrande Fresneau – New Device – Per fess Or and gules, three dice counterchanged

3) Edelina de Witheleghe – New name and device – Per pale argent and sable, a spider counter changed.

4) Elena Dolbadarn – New name (see RETURNS for device)

5) Geneviève d’Auvergne – New name

6) Gunnar Sigurdsson – Name resubmission

7) Reyna Thorne – New Device – Gyronny aronndy sable and argent, a mullet of eight points counterchanged.

Escut Notes: Client includes a permission to conflict letter from Countess Anna von Urwald (aka Anna af Aarnimetsä), ‘Gyronny sable and argent, a mullet counterchanged’.
Clients name was registered in August 2006 via Northshield.

8) Tigernach mac Eóghain ua Áeda – New Device – Gules, two bars and in chief three crosses crosslet argent.

The following items have been returned for further work:

1) Crespine du Matins – New Name

Sources:

<Crespine> - Ambleny Registers 1578-1616, baptismal records - Crespine, 1600
www.s-gabriel.org/names/mari/Ambleny
<Crespin> - Feminizing a masculine name was a common practice, e.g. - Simon/Simone. The masculine name <Crespin> is recorded in the Parisian Tax Rolls 1423. It is reasonable to think that someone would use the feminine form as well.

<du Matins> - a translation of <of the mornings>. <Morning> is clients mundane surname.

Esct. Notes: Client will NOT accept Major changes to name. Cares most about sound.

To quote Master Talan:
This is worthless as documentation: no evidence is offered that <Simone> is a period feminization, let alone that this was a common period practice. The masculine name <Crespin> is recorded in the Parisian Tax Rolls 1423. It is reasonable to think that someone would use the feminine form as well. Not without evidence, either for the name <Crespine>, or for a very general period French practice of feminizing masculine forenames by appending <e>. Fortunately, this argument is wholly unnecessary, since the 1600 Ambleny citation establishes that <Crespine> was in fact at least a late-period French feminine name.

www.ellipsis.cx/~liana/names/french/paris1423.html <du Matins> - a translation of <of the mornings>.
It's ungrammatical: <du> is singular, while <matins> is plural. The grammatically correct forms are <du matin> (singular) and <des matins> (plural). Unfortunately, correct grammar is no guarantee of an authentic or even registerable name. I've found no period evidence for any form of this surname, and I don't know of any semantically analogous period bynames. Unless someone comes up with some genuine support for it, it should be returned.

<Morning> is clients mundane surname.
This has no bearing at all on the submitted name: the legal name allowance, RfS II.4, applies only to the actual legal name, not to variants or translations.

2) Elena Dolbadarn – Device – Vert, on a gore argent a bendwise oak left vert.

Charged gores have been prohibited by Laurel ruling since June 1, 1991: "Based on the consensus of those commenting on this issue, the College will ban the use of charged gores and charged gussets, matching the ban on charged tierces. Uncharged gores, gussets and tierces will continue to be registerable. Any charged gores or gussets currently pending at Laurel will be processed as having been 'in the pipeline' before the ban went into effect. Therefore, after March 1, 1992, we will no longer register charged gores or gussets." (CL 12/21/91 p.2). Precedents of the SCA College of Arms, Da'ud ibn Auda, Laurel Sovereign of Arms.
